La Cocoracha, La Cocoracha

Nov 27th

Both Edie and I experienced another uncomfortable night of restless sleep due to the heat. I was awoken several times because Isabelle was sick and was throwing up all morning. Edie and I got out of bed at 9am and decided that we couldn’t do another night without AC.

We had breakfast downstairs and used my computer to search for other lodging options. We had a very hard time. It took us nearly two hours to find a place that was in our budget and in the right location. We couldn’t get a definite answer out of Stephanie as to if she and Isabelle wanted to switch rooms so we decided to make the move without them. We ended up moving to the other side of Copacabana beach. Our new hotel is 1 block form Copacabana beach and 5 blocks from Impanemia. The room is definitely not a room in the Ritz, but it had AC, hot water and a comfy bed. We settled in and unpacked. We both agreed it was nice to not have to live out of a suitcase. The hostel was just over $250USD for three night, which was more than we wanted to spend, but worth the money. We scoped out the area, it seems like there is a road leading up to the favelas right next to our hotel, but everyone seems fairly friendly and it seems safe.

We decided to grab lunch at a place right around the corner called Grill In, which was recommended by the hotel. This was another buffet type of place where you take what you want and pay based on weight. Edie and I both enjoyed our meals. We spent some time in the room trying to figure out how to best use the time we had left and deciding what we wanted to see in the area. I was using my computer on my bed and got up to use the bathroom when all of a sudden a cockroach ran across my bed. I screamed and luckily Edie bravely killed it. We pulled the beds away from the wall and did a search for more creepy crawlers. Luckily, there were no other bugs to be found. Edie thinks that it came in with the clean sheets, I don’t know how it got there, but hope there aren’t any more.

After planning and relaxing we walked from our end of Copacabana to the opposite end near the hostel. We were supposed to met Stephanie, Isablle, Laura and Richard a few hours ago, but our planned changed when we decided to relocate. By that point they were no where to be found on the beach so we decided to walk to the hostel and try to find them. We found them and decided that we would all eat separately then meet back at the hostel to head to Lapa (the nightlight section of Rio) to go out. Edie and I did some more shopping on the walk back then ate dinner at Grill In. We both got sushi this time, it was wonderful! We showered and got ready for the night. We met the group at hostel at 10pm and all went to Lapa. We found a great club but it wasn’t too busy  and the drinks were expensive so we decided to sit outside since it was a nice night and have some drinks.  Sat outside and drank for a couple hours. Edie and I left at 1ish because we were both tired and a tour early the following morning.

Bye for now,
Love
Katie.
