Party, Party, Party!

Nov 6th

At 1am Marita drove Maria and I to the downtown area of Neuquen. Our first stop was to pick up Marias friend, Belen. Belen and Maria have grown up together and have been friends forever; it was great to meet her. Marita dropped us off at a local place called Irish Bar. There we grabbed a small dinner and had some drinks. We stayed at Irish Bar until 3:30am chatting and watching the various groups of people. At 3:30am we grabbed a taxi to SuperClub. I’m quickly starting to realize how well connected Maria is in Neuquén, she used to work at a night club so many of the employees in the night clubs here know her. When we arrived at SuprerClub we were escorted in, avoiding the cover charge and brought right to the VIP room. We grabbed a drink at the bar, I had Vodka and an energy drink called Speed, since Maria knew the bar tender my drink was free! SuperClub has three floors each having different music and a different atmosphere. We didn’t like the music playing on the first floor where the VIP area was so we ventured upstairs to the second floor where they had great music playing. The DJ was playing a great mix of Argentinean music, Brazilian carnival music, and popular American music. I loved it! I even made mental notes for the Argentinean and Brazilian music that I liked so I can download them later. At 5:30am I was exhausted. We were all getting a little tired at that point and went to rest on one of the various leather couches that they had spread throughout the club. I knew as soon as I saw down that I wasn’t going to be able to dance anymore, I was too tired and the couch was too comfortable. We sat for a few minutes until a really popular Argentinean song came on and Maria and Belen jumped up and started dancing. I enjoyed sitting and watching them but was too tired to get off the couch. I even kept nodding off and would wake up when people bumped into the couch or if everyone in the whole club was doing a particular dance move in which they would all jump up and the vibrations would shake the building. I was a little disappointed in myself because the music was great and I know it would have been a lot of fun to dance longer, but I just wasn’t used to the time schedule and was too tired. At 6:45am we decided that we were all tired and that it was time to go home. As we walked towards the exit I could see the light of the day seeping in throw the cracks of the door. Maria and Belen were prepared and naturally pulled out their sunglasses. I squinted and came to the realization of how my sleep schedule would be thrown off for days, and how I’m kind of glad the clubs in American aren’t open quite so late.

Luckily the cab ride home was only about 10 minutes. We both crawled into bed exhausted. We were able to sleep until 2pm; our 7 hour slumber wasn’t quite enough for me. I still felt tired and was groggy all day. I jumped in the shower and got ready quickly as possible because the Gracias were having a big BBQ and all of the guests had arrived before Maria had woken me up. There were two other families who came over to join us for all of Ruben‘s delicious cooking. Ruben is a very great cook and he made all kinds of meats, there was rack of ribs, sausage, and kielbasa like meats called chorizo and morcilla. As soon as I had met everyone we sat right down to the feast, it was excellent. After we had finished the main course we went inside to the living room and had ice cream cake that was made with dulce de leche that was wonderful. We sat and relaxed for a couple of hours in the living room chatting. The language barrier has been interesting but everyone has been super nice to me and has tried very hard to explain things in ways that I will understand. All of this only makes me want to improve my Spanish.

At around 6:30pm all of the guests left and Maria and I were exhausted. We both decided that we should nap. I slept for 3 hours and it felt great. At 10:30pm one of the party guests, Baltazar, picked Maria and I up and took us for a drive around the town. Baltazar is thirty years old and a friend of the family. He has an engineering degree and has been traveling abroad for many years now. I had a good time sharing traveling stories with him. He brought us to many of the sights that I had been to before with the Garcia’s but I enjoyed getting out and having another look at the city. We went for pizza at a little place called Sherlock’s. After dinner we got ice cream at a cute little ice cream parlor, I of course got dulce de leche. At around 2pm we headed back to the Garcia’s house. I was still wide awake because my schedule was so thrown off. I packed my backpack so that I would be ready to travel in the morning. I attempted to sleep, but didn’t have any luck so I ended up playing on my computer until 5:30am.

Bye for now.
Love,
Katie.
